The Economist: Religion and the US armed forces One army under God?

In response to the below article in The Economist:

Religion and the US armed forces
One army under God?
Why new strains of fundamentalism are said to be gaining ground in the services

I think that the most apt term is Brainwashing. Yes, brainwashing has been used throughout the ages via a myriad of tactics. One is Patriotism, Nationalism; Being taught that America (or which ever country) is Great, Superior; Also, it builds a military that won’t ask questions as they are deluded into thinking that they are Patriots and Heroes.

The other major brainwashing tool is, of course, Religion. All Religions amount to brainwashing. Period. Religion is a tool used for the the overt and deliberate suppression of knowledge, including the sciences; And the forceful suppression of actual Facts. And people sign up to fight in endless and venal WARS in droves to get blown to smithereens…In the name of god and country.

Indeed, both Patriotism and Religion have been HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL Tools, and both do serve to positively fortify the desired effect of Total, Abject Ignorance which is, of course, the ABSOLUTE KEY in the game of mind control; Pacification through Religion and the tireless campaigns of keeping people insanely ignorant and always distracted so that the Robber Barons can continue to rob us all blind.
Further, the outright LIES which are found throughout all religions, serve as a highly useful vehicle for virulent, abject hatred so that the minions will fight the masters ghastly Wars to the bitter end; The constantly-fomented Hatred is almost entirely produced by base ignorance; And that core, base ignorance serves this government very well indeed.
Every technique to distract the populace is used; Mass media, which of course is wholly owned thereby entirely controlled by CORPORATE governance; Thus, the media outlets report NOTHING useful and everything asinine and inane. No matter the technique, All are forms of intentional trickery.
Religion though, again, has worked like a charm since the day it was invented and written down (by MEN, (as opposed to BY GOD)), and Religion is still, bar none, the most highly effective tool for TOTAL mind control today. Well, there WAS the period in history known as the Age of Reason, the Enlightenment… Well, We all know about THAT part of history, don’t we? CRUSHED IMMEDIATELY and THOROUGHLY BY (GUESS WHO); Replaced with RELIGION, NEVER TO SURFACE Widely AGAIN.
As the true “believers” continue to force their psychotic “beliefs” and their twisted “principles” on the rest of the world, typically through crusading, proselytizing, threatening, terrorizing and, as we have seen throughout recorded history, WARS. And In the name of…GOD. What a TRAVESTY.
Mind control is a disgusting game in which I shall not participate. Money-based, tax-exempt and fear-driven, that is religion, each and every one of them. All that has been conjured and feverishly written by men in men’s own image is a disgusting sham. Any concept of a good god, once touched by it’s delusional and rabid devotees, has been forever morphed into a grotesque, hateful, despicable, brutal and, don’t forget misogynistic, fallacy.
MONEY-BASED and TAX-EXEMPT!! How can religions, these multi-trillion-dollar industries, be totally exempt from paying both federal and state taxes that, by the way, would indeed go to programs that help the needy, the poor, and the down-trodden among us? Isn’t that a large part for which these pious religious institutions have been created? To help the poor and needy and downtrodden among us?
RELIGION ITSELF is the PROBLEM. These self-deluding, impudent, contemptible Monsters who cloister themselves behind the evil cloak of [Money-based, Tax-Exempt] Religion, um, MIND CONTROL know nothing at all about human kindness, open-handed generosity, sacrifice for the sake of others, service for the good of all, humility, acceptance, tolerance, forgiveness.
Witness: Actual FACTS become Horrid LIES; Actual History is morphed into Insane and Totally Contradictory Parodies. Rapacious IDIOT-PRIMATES filling their wicked minds with GOD KNOWS WHAT, as their very personalities, right along with their muddy brains, atrophy; They’ve all become loathsome and unforgivably stupid and dangerous animals; And they are NOT innocent, by the way.

Nancy Pelosi, Please Go Straight to Hell

So, ALL of you Hacks in our government, both the miserably duplicitous Democrats, um…PELOSI?  And the Clansmen Crackers that comprise the Republican Party particularly, repeatedly and emphatically state that you do not want people, no matter their circumstance, dependent on the government; Dependent on the government for health care, dependent on the government for food, dependent on the government, period. You are self-proclaimed “rugged, pull-yourselves-up-by-the-bootstraps Individualists;” Freedom Fighters; “Liberty Patriots,” [Gunslinging Nutcases] etc., etc, etc.

So!! Is it really that you do not Realize that indeed it is You yourselves who are totally reliant, yes, Dependent–on the very government in which you publicly denounce? Yes, It is You government Hacks that spend every worthless waking hour campaigning and LYING to get right back on the Dole, all funded by WE the PEOPLE, the free-loading TAX PAYERS. I mean, really… Just admit it.

Yes, you worse-than-useless parasites clogging up this thoroughly corrupt JOKE of a government, do enjoy mightily all your tax-payer-funded LIFETIME Benefits; Health care benefits, Insider Trading, limousines, fancy restaurants. living high off of US, in your very own self-involved, self-centered and thoroughly Spoilt World of Utter Disgrace and Total Failure. Indeed, You yourselves in this miserably failing government enjoy full, lifetime endless benefits, all on the taxpayers dime, right as you continually fight to deny your own constituents, your own fellow citizens, the very so-called entitlements that which you yourselves benefit. How dare you!

And so, to you I say this:
I propose a simple and straightforward bit of legislation to be given to the citizens of the United States as a REFERENDUM vote:
Retract entirely every single benefit that you hypocritical parasites in our miserably failing government, every benefit that you all enjoy on OUR, the taxpayers’, hard-earned dime.

First, No more free health care. And then you corrupt, mean-spirited and unconscionable government HUMPS would all have to do just as WE ALL MUST DO: buy grossly inflated, anti-American, inhumane for-profit health care “insurance,” (one of the biggest SCAMS in history) that covers nothing at all just when you need coverage most; and then, when one of you filthy, horrible Republicans or filthy, horrible Democrats gets sick and is denied coverage, let the insurance company CEO immediately and unceremoniously pull the plug.

Then, I myself will form a very long line of the wretched and the doomed, right up to the doorways and into your grand offices; And, THEN, please Ms. Pelosi et al, allow ME Personally to yank you forcibly out of those Grand offices, right by your well-coiffed hair, and straight out to the squalid streets of WE the PEOPLE; And then YOU can Fend for Yourselves…
Good Luck!!

P.S.  I want my money back–ALL of it.

To HELL with You, Pelosi.

No, Virginia, There is No Santa Claus…

This writing explains my old line thoughts, which are still my current thoughts.  I am choosing to reply to an angry spambot’s message, so here:

Make no mistake: I am and always have been simply disgusted with ALL variations of mind control, including All forms of religion.  Some religious beliefs are so astonishing that they are indeed amusing, but all religion is ClapTrap.  Dangerous Claptrap.   To the spambot’s question as to why I don’t rant and rave about Atheism:  Look, Atheists are assholes too.  And  I do, as a matter of fact, include Atheism as conked and whacked out as well.  Atheism is Dogma too.

I make wide-swathing blanket statements about every group of people to make general points; There are always exceptions and I may be right or may be wrong; With new information, however, my opinions and viewpoints can and do change.  I do find that most do not like facts, but in the words of Gore Vidal, “…One is not loved for being helpful,” referring to pointing out contradictions and outright Lies which are found under every… filthy rock.

A note then on Atheists as a whole, based on my own scant observations:  Atheists seem to be ignorantly Arrogant, backwardly condescending, self-righteous;  Feverish with the same exact religious zealotry that I myself disdain.  So, No, I am not an Atheist.

Anyway,   Yes!!   The Zionists are the Muslims inside and out;   The White Christians of America are indeed the de facto KKK;  they are just as dangerous, plus they are amongst the dumbest of animals;   They are ALL 100% GUILTY and I loathe every one of them and every last bit of “IT.”

So, that means that I personally, having Freedom of Thought, Freedom of Speech, and Freedom from all forms of Tyranny, I am perfectly free to loathe any one and anything that I see deserving of my contempt.  as filthy and destructive…LIES. I do not like brainwashing techniques on any level. Read “Propaganda” by Edward Bernays.

And no, I do not get along well in this world at all and I never will based on my own observations; My 45 years on this earth entitle ME to state what I SEE with my own EYES; I’ve done time and I’ve spent it in sharp focus on the rapacious human animal; And each one proves all of my points again and again: The absolute majority of human “people” are filthy animals. The rich ones enjoy rolling around like hogs in their own filth. There are very few exceptions. Period.

Further, No, I am not a Communist; That system is a total, abject failure as well. I am nothing, not Democrat, nothing because each of the two parties in this illusory duopoly, has utterly betrayed the very citizens whom they were entrusted to represent.
America? Goddamn America. It, America, founded on Genocide and Slavery, is of course, a travesty. And, YES, there is indeed an infinite list of Atrocities committed by this government, that has fully earned my loathing and has thoroughly engendered my angry contempt.

And No, there is no where else that I would live because the rapacious, primitive leaders in all countries, have ruined every other place on earth as well.
There is simply very little, if anything, left to love, admire or respect about this Warmongering and truly despicable and horrible government.

Furthermore, if I could do it single-handedly, without any threat of imprisonment, I personally would forcibly yank these filthy parasites, D and R, et al, they are the same, I’d yank them out of their grand offices, right by their hair and then I’d drop each one of them, smack dab right in the middle of any one of the many poor , abandoned ghettos, yes, of the many totally neglected and thoroughly blighted wastelands within this godforsaken country, America, And I’d leave them naked on the dirty pavement to fend for themselves from the seething mobs.

No, I am certainly not an anarchist either. I believe in government a working and transparent government in a Democratic state; That is to say, a government that works for all citizens, not just the rich ones; A legitimate governance of the people, by the people and for the people, is the only one I know of; Yet, if and when the people, both the voters and the government representing the voters, become lazy and ignore the signs of corruption, thus they allow unceasing and now thorough corruption,, as the US citizens by and large all have for decades now, the entire system breaks down. And here we are; At the core, absolute Vigilance is required by the citizens, that is to say, they all must pay close attention to what the governing body is actually doing; and particularly, whose interests are actually being represented by these elected people. Too late now, for the public has been asleep at the switch and now the entire system is in fact Corrupt.

To be clear: I believe strongly in fair taxation if and only if the money is spent for the total abolition of Poverty in America; for the building and maintenance of infrastructure; Education for all citizens; Direct access to Health Care for all citizens, which will include the total elimination of “health care insurance;” And for the Programs that benefit the Common Good, that which has not been considered at all by this or any other government since the days of Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society. BTW, Every single issue fought for EVER, e.g. worker’s rights, civil rights, Every thing Now Squandered completely. Down the Drain.

No. I am not even leaning slightly toward Communist. That is Fascism and so is THIS in America. So, Socialist, if you must use such tired and old labels, Socialist is the closest proximate term and most appropriate to describe my ideology. Utopia? No, no, no. I am not delusional. What I say is that in the richest nation on earth, there is absolutely no excuse for any poverty. Period. Every one that works MUST, by definition, be Paid a LIVING WAGE. In other words, no slavery. Progressive taxation and NO OBSCENE Wealth allowed. Period. NO ONE is “worth” these kinds of appalling figures, in the billions and trillions. It is GHASTLY. And As a society, the total reset, reevaluation of what is actually tangibly valuable must occur. Financiers and bankers are WORTHLESS. THEY bring Society NOTHING. thus it is THEY who are the DREGS of Society. Therefore, “they” GET NOTHING because they are WORTHLESS. Teachers, Fire Department, REAL CONTRIBUTORS to society will be paid well and will be respected and their salaries, as every one else’s will be commensurate with their actual contributions to the Common Good.

KNOWLEDGE and Useful Skills are GOOD; Therefore, knowledge and skills are to be deemed VALUABLE. Reality television, for example, as with all the other narcissistic and idiotic worthlessness, in general, is to be viewed by society with nothing other than pure disdain and utter contempt, because it is all disdainful and it is all contemptible. Sports? Fine. They the athletes are to be paid for their talent and effort; But that doesn’t amount to more than, say a TEACHER. And That, my dear, is Just for starters.

SO!! Can the Pope, as he wanders around Vatican City wearing his silk robes, living like a KING, hear the shrieks from the doomed, neglected and pitiful masses? No?!? How about the wretched, plaintive wails from all the starving children whom are, by HIS command, FORCED to be BORN? Yeah…I thought so.

ALL Religion is LAUGHABLE; Religion amounts to the absolute suppression of knowledge, the steady denial of science, denial of FACTS and Reality, and a totally willful surrender of logic and reason; All of which equals Stunning Ignorance and Profound Stupidity.By my witnessing the absolutely reprehensible behavior and deranged beliefs by and of the most dogmatic right-wing fundamentalist religious types of every stripe, I come to believe more than ever that ALL religion is the veritable root of PURE EVIL.

Furthermore, the fact of the matter is that it is decidedly and inarguably the “religious” Right, i.e. the REPUBLICANS, that spew that utter nonsense, Religion.

On the other hand, the Democrats just tiptoe around religion, never wanting to offend potential voters. It seems that one is either a stark-raving hypocrite or a thorough and unforgivable coward, whimpering away pathetically with its tail between its legs.

I choose to be none of the above; I disagree with religion in politics in its entirety; whether it’s on the demonic, utterly stingy, greedy, self-serving, contemptible, R-wing conservative side, or on the lily-livered, weak and incredibly ineffectual L-wing side.

To the Democrats: I hate weakness of character and wishy-washy attempts to appease everyone, even SATAN.

SO, Stand up on the side of RIGHT, like those who lived before us–Martin Luther King, Jr., for one. But then, you see, every time the truly righteous people try to lead, one of the hypocritical, gun-toting, R-wing NUTBAGS puts a bullet in their heads!! And That is a REPUBLICAN TRAIT.

So, in the end, I’d rather cast my lot with NICE people who want to HELP the needy, not leave them suffering…

From the very beginning of recorded [human] history, each known civilization has been filled with ethical codes delineating moral conduct. Well before the bible ever came about, well before the ten commandments were written, nearly every recorded society had a set of bylaws by which to live and conduct oneself. In most cases, these codes, rules, bylaws, guidelines, however you wish to define them, had nothing to do with religion. The bible’s ten commandments, in other words, were not of original thought by some great master moralist. I prefer to live by the most basic common sense, lessons learned in the course of life, reading books of all genres, opinions, thoughts, etc. and I’ve come to my very own conclusions… As a matter of discourse, I’ve enclosed my own advice as to how to live one’s life:

As to the general subject of ethics and morality, I think the 14th Dalai Lama had it right; He said “My religion is simple. My religion is kindness.”

I find it hugely important and imperative to make constant judgements about everything and everyone. It’s called survival and if someone actually thinks that being judgmental is a “bad” thing, they don’t learn… very well. It’s a simple and highly useful tool for survival.

Hold each person absolutely responsible for their words, commitments, actions; If someone says they will do something, hold them to it. If they don’t do it, extricate, extricate, extricate. If their words and their actions don’t mesh, don’t bother. Don’t give second chances and, NEVER give third chances. After all, what you see is what you get. That is it.

Founder of Home Depot, Ken Langone, Threatens to Withhold Charitable Donations…for the Poor…

January 1, 2014
Billionaire Ken Langone, the founder of Home Depot issued a warning to Pope Francis during an interview with CNBC which was published this past Monday. In the interview he said that wealthy people such as himself are feeling ostracized by the Pope’s messages in support of the poor, and might stop giving to charity if the Pope continues to make statements criticizing capitalism and income inequality.

Mr. Langone described the Pope’s comments about a “culture of prosperity” as “exclusionary” statements that may make some of the rich “incapable of feeling compassion for the poor.”

The billionaire, who’s a major donor to the Republican Party, is currently working with Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, to raise $180 million for the restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Langone said that he told the Archbishop about a wealthy donor who could give millions of dollars to the Cathedral project but was worried about the Pope’s “exclusionary” remarks.

“I’ve told the cardinal, ‘Your Eminence, this is one more hurdle I hope we don’t have to deal with. You want to be careful about generalities. Rich people in one country don’t act the same as rich people in another country,'” said Langone.
CNBC also spoke to Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who said he told Langone the unnamed donor’s concerns seemed based on “a misunderstanding of the Holy Father’s message.”

“The pope loves poor people. He also loves rich people. So I said, ‘Ken, thanks for bringing it to my attention. We’ve gotta correct, to make sure this gentleman understands the Holy Father’s message properly.’ And then I think he’s gonna say, ‘Oh, OK. If that’s the case, count me in for St. Patrick’s Cathedral,’” Dolan said.
During a speech in Brazil this past July, Pope Francis appealed “to those in possession of greater resources,” saying that they should “never tire of working for a more just world, marked by greater solidarity. No one can remain insensitive to the inequalities that persist in the world.”

A number of people, from Republican Sen. John McCain to conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh, have weighed in on Francis’ statements, with the latter calling it “pure Marxism.”

Dolan calls the Marxist label “hyperbole,” telling CNBC that the pope thinks “money in itself is morally neutral. Money, our wealth, is a gift from God. And the morality comes in the way we use it.

“If it becomes a god, if it becomes an idol, Pope Francis is saying, then it’s wrong. Because there is only one God. If we use it for our own selves and our families, for a secure and a safe present and future, if we use it to reinvest in the community, to help others, and if we share with the poor, then it’s morally good,” Dolan said.

Fastest Internet in US? It’s Chattanooga, TN, Thanks to Local and Fed $$$ (Ps. Big Cable Very Angry) by Steven D

Fastest Internet in US? It’s Chattanooga, TN, Thanks to Local and Fed $$$ (Ps. Big Cable Very Angry)
by Steven D

Yes, you read that right.  Internet speeds as fast as 1 gigabit gigabyte per second are the norm in the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Not the spot you might have predicted, would you.  Certainly not the place I anticipated would have faster, better internet than anywhere else in the United States, and one of the faster internet speeds on the planet.  Not only that, but the fast internet is helping to lead Chattanooga out of the economic doldrums.
[A] group of thirty-something local entrepreneurs have set up Lamp Post, an incubator for a new generation of tech companies, in the building. A dozen startups are currently working out of the glitzy downtown office [that was formally the home of Loveman’s department store].
“We’re not Silicon Valley. No one will ever replicate that,” says Allan Davis, one of Lamp Post’s partners. “But we don’t need to be and not everyone wants that. The expense, the hassle. You don’t need to be there to create great technology. You can do it here.”
He’s not alone in thinking so. Lamp Post is one of several tech incubators in this mid-sized Tennessee city. Money is flowing in. Chattanooga has gone from close to zero venture capital in 2009 to more than five organized funds with investable capital over $50m in 2014 – not bad for a city of 171,000 people. […]
In large part the success is being driven by The Gig. Thanks to an ambitious roll-out by the city’s municipally owned electricity company, EPB, Chattanooga is one of the only places on Earth with internet at speeds as fast as 1 gigabit per second – about 50 times faster than the US average.
Yes, these young groups of local tech entrepenuers are important, but they couldn’t have created this turnaround alone. They are receiving help help from the city’s Democratic Mayor, Andy Berke, but the real driver of the boom comes from the efforts of the city’s municipally owned electrical provider, EFB, which decided to fast track a high speed fiber optics network, rather than settle for slower service from the big cable company internet providers.  On September 17, 2013, after construction was completed seven years earlier than originally planned.
[C]ity residents have an unlikely business to thank [for their faster, cheaper internet service]: the publicly owned electric utility. […]
[T]he effort to bring cheap broadband to the masses began as a simple engineering problem: The city’s electric company, EPB, needed a way for its systems to monitor and communicate with new digital equipment being installed on the grid. Meanwhile, city hall was learning that the country’s biggest phone and cable companies wouldn’t be starting service there for a decade or more.
Chattanooga spent $330 million on its new network, raising $220 million in bond money and winning $111.5 million in federal stimulus dollars. (The money from Washington was like icing on the cake; by the time EPB applied, it had already reached its initial targets and with the additional funds cut a 10-year construction plan down to three years.)
According to Harold DePriest, EFB’s CEO, the high speed network referred to as “The Gig” is a big profit center for EFB.  However, one major benefit is the savings it generates for one of the network’s biggest customers: EFB, itself.  He estimates savings of at least $1 Million per year.  However, while Chattanooga’s high speed internet is proving to be quite the success story, it didn’t come without opposition from you know who:
Along the way, EPB fought several court battles with Comcast and the state cable association. Even before all this, Chattanooga had to lobby the state government for permission to let EPB participate in the telecom market.
Across the country, twenty states prohibit or restrict municipalities from doing what Chattanooga has done – create their own high speed broadband networks to compete with the big telecom and cable companies, who have a stranglehold on providing slower, crappier, more expensive internet service to most of us.  So, it should come as no surprise that the big telecoms are concerned that other municipalities will see what Chattanooga has accomplished, and are taking legal steps to stop any further expansion of EFB’s internet service.
The US cable industry called on the Federal Communications Commission on Friday [August 29, 2014] to block two cities’ plans to expand high-speed internet services to their residents.
USTelecom, which represents cable giants Comcast, Time Warner and others, wants the FCC to block expansion of two popular municipally owned high speed internet networks, one in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the other in Wilson, North Carolina.
“The success of public broadband is a mixed record, with numerous examples of failures,” USTelecom said in a blog post. “With state taxpayers on the financial hook when a municipal broadband network goes under, it is entirely reasonable for state legislatures to be cautious in limiting or even prohibiting that activity.”
Chattanooga has the largest high-speed internet service in the US, offering customers access to speeds of 1 gigabit per second – about 50 times faster than the US average. The service, provided by municipally owned EPB, has sparked a tech boom in the city and attracted international attention. EPB is now petitioning the FCC to expand its territory. Comcast and others have previously sued unsuccessfully to stop EPB’s fibre optic roll out.
Wilson, a town of a little more than 49,000 people, launched Greenlight, its own service offering high speed internet, after complaints about the cost and quality of Time Warner cable’s service. Time Warner lobbied the North Carolina senate to outlaw the service and similar municipal efforts.
How nice of them to be concerned about taxpayers, especially as most of these companies are doing their darnedest to avoid paying taxes.  But, as you can guess, what they are really concerned about is competition from local municipalities, and the loss of their virtual monopoly on providing broadband services in America.  Imagine availability to internet services fifty times faster than what Comcast and Time Warner (in the process of seeking approval for a mega-merger, FYI) are willing to provide, and at an equal or even lower price?  No wonder they want to block Chattanooga and EFB from expanding service to more residents.  EFB has the proper response to the pompous, selfish and greedy actions of the telecom industry.
In a statement EPB said: “Communities should have the right – at the local level – to determine their broadband futures.
“The private sector didn’t want to serve everyone, but public power companies like EPB were established to make sure that everyone had access to this critical infrastructure.
Meanwhile Chattanooga is thriving, and has even bigger plans for the future:
Mayor Berke has dealt with requests for visits from everyone from tiny rural communities to “humungous international cities”. “You don’t see many mid-sized cities that have the kind of activity that we have right now in Chattanooga,” he said. “What the Gig did was change the idea of what our city could be. Mid-sized southern cities are not generally seen as being ahead of the technological curve, the Gig changed that. We now have people coming in looking to us as a leader.” […]
EPB’s high-speed network came about after it decided to set up a smart electric grid in order to cut power outages. EPB estimated it would take 10 years to build the system and raised a $170m through a municipal bond to pay for it. In 2009 president Barack Obama launched the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a stimulus programme aimed at getting the US economy back on track amid the devastation of the recession. EPB was awarded $111m to get its smart grid up and running. Less than three years later the whole service territory was built.
… The University of California at Berkeley estimates that power outages cost the US economy $80bn a year through business disruption with manufacturers stopping their lines and restaurants closing. Chattanooga’s share of that loss was about $100m, EPB estimates.  …  Since the system was installed the duration of power outages has been cut in half.
In short, no shutdowns such as the one millions of customers of Time Warmer had to suffer through this last Wednesday.
Internet service went down for millions of Americans on Wednesday morning after cable company Time Warner Cable suffered a major outage. […]
Affected users besieged the helplines and social media accounts of the firm, which declared an operating income of $1.1bn in the 2nd quarter of 2014.
On Tuesday, Reuters reported that Time Warner Cable paid $1.1m to resolve an investigation from the Federal Communications Commission that found the provider did not properly report multiple network outages.
“TWC (Time Warner Cable) failed to file a substantial number of reports with respect to a series of reportable wireline and Voice Over Internet Protocol network outages,” the FCC’s report read. “TWC admits that its failure to timely file the required network outage reports violated the commission’s rules.”
Hey, what a shocker.  Lousy service from a monopoly, including the failure to report multiple “network outages” in violation of FCC regulations.  In short, you can understand the big telecom companies acting in their own interest, if not yours, to maintain the status quo.  At present, they are practically printing money while we get internet service that is worse than thirty other countries, including, among others, Uruguay.
Yeah, let that sink in.  Uraguayans have better internet service than citizens of the “greatest nation on earth.”  Pretty damn embarrassing, if not a big surprise. Ever since we began to glorify Big Business and denigrate government during the Reagan years, we’ve seen America go from being a leader in many fields to falling further and further behind even many third world countries, all so our multinational, tax dodging corporations can feed off ordinary Americans like so many parasites, slowly draining the lifeblood out of our nation even as they steal whatever is left in our pocketbooks.
So, to Chattanooga I say good luck and godspeed in your battle with these corporate psychopaths.  I only wish my city had done what yours did.  And thanks for showing all of us that government investment in infrastructure, whether at the local level or with assistance from the federal government, in this case the electrical grid and fiber optic networks, works better to grow our economy than the current, private, monopolistic practices of the telecom industry.  Indeed, their actions are hurting our nation’s economic future, even as they rake it massive profits for bad service.
